A decision to build a life closer to the land, raise our family around work that matters, and create something that could serve people beyond ourselves.
We're Chris and Sarah Kamyszek. Chris is a medically retired Air Force veteran, and Sarah is a nurse anesthetist who carried the dream of owning a farm long before we ever found this one. Our paths to The WildWoods were different, but the vision became ours together: to grow honest food, restore a piece of land, and leave behind something more meaningful than either of us could build alone.
When we found these 50 acres in Hadley Township, we didn't see a finished farm. We saw tired pastures, tangled woods, wet ground that needed to be respected, and a tremendous amount of possibility. We began learning the land one pasture at a time: digging into the soil, watching how water moved, rotating animals, making mistakes, changing plans, and paying attention.
Today, our cattle, sheep, and chickens are more than livestock. They are part of how we rebuild soil, return fertility to the pastures, and create a healthier farm from the ground up. We grow slowly and deliberately because the goal isn't to force more from the land. It is to leave the land capable of giving more long after we're gone.
This is family work. It happens between hospital shifts, day jobs, school schedules, storms, broken equipment, late-night animal checks, and whatever manages to escape next. Our children gather eggs, help move fence, and grow up knowing that food does not begin at a grocery store. Every major decision is made together, and every season teaches all of us something new.
The WildWoods is ultimately about more than what we raise. We want it to become a place where neighbors can know the people and pastures behind their food: a place built around healthy soil, well-cared-for animals, strong families, and a stronger local community.
We aren't trying to build the biggest farm. We're trying to build one that matters.
